Walt Disney World’s security guards called the cops on a 69-year-old great-grandmother who had CBD oil for her arthritis.
Hester Jordan Burkhalter went to the theme park to see Mickey Mouse, Minnie, and the rest of the gang.
Knowing that arthritis tends to flare up whenever a body is doing a lot of walking in the hot Florida sun, Mrs. Burkhalter decided she better come prepared. So, she brought her CBD oil and a doctor’s note with her. She told the security guard that she had a note from the doctor okaying her use of the CBD oil to treat her arthritis.
The security guard decided he wanted to be a tool and was like, “Nah, rules are rules.” He called another security guard who is a Florida police officer. The security guard/Florida police officer decided he better call his brothers in blue to tell them about the old woman who had a doctor’s note to treat her arthritis with CBD oil.
They came racing to the scene of no crime, tested the CBD oil, found some THC in it, and then arrested the 69-year-old grandmother.
When ask how she took the just plain out wrong arrest, Mrs. Burkhalter said:
“I didn’t know what to think. I couldn’t understand it. I didn’t feel
like I done nothing wrong. I didn’t know. I never had maybe one
speeding ticket in my life. I never been in a jailhouse.”
They kept the great-grandmother locked up in the jailhouse with harden criminals for 12 hours on a $2,000 bond.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department tried to save face by using that “the law is the law” bit. But nobody was trying to hear that. Folks were like, “That was one time when the police should’ve asked somebody if they could borrow his common sense. Because anybody with a lick of common sense knows, you don’t arrest old folks who have arthritis medicine. Arthur strikes at any time. Everybody knows that.”
Luckily for the old woman, all of the bad publicity from the police and the DA’s stupidity led to the DA dropping the charges.
Florida is trying to amend the law so foolishness like that want happen again. However, they have a dumb as a door knob governor who, like the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the DA, lacks common sense enough to know that it is asinine to arrest a 69-year-old grandmother who is using CBD oil to treat a common ailment among the elderly.
